If your wedding is fast approaching, chances are you are trying to figure out how to make the most of your honeymoon. Your honeymoon would probably be great no matter where you choose to go, just as long as you are with your newlywed spouse, right?
Let’s face the truth though, planning a great honeymoon can just make those first days as husband and wife that much better. Here are some great tips to help you have a honeymoon that you will never forget.
1 – Make an Itinerary Ahead of Time
One of the most important things that you can do when planning your honeymoon is to make an itinerary. This is important because when traveling, you can get caught up in everything that a new place has to offer, and you may miss out on something that you really wanted to do. If you look ahead of time at all the popular attractions and events at your honeymoon destination, you will be able to plan your days accordingly. Remember, your itinerary is not set in stone. If you have to skip a few things, that is okay too!
2 – Think Outside the Box
When you think of your honeymoon, you may think of a tropical destination on a beach somewhere with fruity cocktails and couples’ massages. But when planning your honeymoon, think outside the box a little bit, and plan a different type of holiday. You can always go to the beach, but this is your honeymoon! You want to make it special and different. Walking holidays are actually becoming quite popular for honeymoons. The one we would definitely recommend is the Camino de Santiago.
The Camino de Santiago is a great choice because it has so much versatility. Choose a route based on your own time frames and physical abilities, and enjoy the breathtaking sites of Spain. It isn’t as rough and rugged as it may sound, don’t worry. There are numerous accommodation options along the way, and you can choose to stray off the beaten path and enjoy your very own version of the Camino. We’d recommend going for the Camino Frances, as it has the best infrastructure.
3 – Add a Touch of Spontaneity
While on your honeymoon, you may have a whole lot planned. Try to do something a little spontaneous while you are away as well. This can really help to make the time more memorable. For instance, you may want to go bungee jumping, or parasailing, or do something else that you may have never considered doing. Trying out something that is new and different may be a little scary at first, but it can be a bonding experience that you embark on together. Make this a point when you are on your honeymoon. You don’t even have to plan it ahead of time. Just be spontaneous when the moment arises.
4 – Give Yourself an Adequate Amount of Travel Time
One of the easiest ways to make your honeymoon a stressful time is to not allow yourself adequate time for your travels. If you plan out just a few days, you will feel rushed and may not be able to do everything that you intended to do. You should also make sure that you give yourself a few days of rest and relaxation when you get back home before you have to get back to your daily grind. Time is especially important if you choose a walking holiday. Many routes can be done in just a few days, but there are a lot of them that take weeks to conquer. Take this into consideration when planning your honeymoon.
As you can see, there are definitely ways that you can have a great honeymoon. These are just a few tips when it comes to your travels. There are many more ways that you can make your honeymoon that much more memorable.
