Contest Promotes Freedom To Marry

You can marry whomever you want right? Well not quite. In many U.S. states, same-sex couples still cannot be married. It is perhaps not surprising to see a wedding contest whose aim is to promote your Freedom to Marry. Here are its first winners!

Freedom to Marry hosted a contest recently for all couples – gay & straight – to be given the wedding of their dreams. The only catch? The couple had to be in FAVOR of marriage equality for all and ask friends and family to make donations toFreedom to Marry“Wedding Registry” in lieu of purchasing a gift. The winner was given as their prize wedding planner Jason Mitchell Kahn (author of Getting Groomed: The Ultimate Wedding Planner for Gay Grooms & wedding planner at Shiraz Events) to create, for free, the wedding of their dreams.

Why did Sarah & Ben Register For Freedom to Marry?

“Well, to be honest, we had talked about how much we don’t need “stuff” for our wedding, and giving to others would be better.  When we saw the e-mail from Michael Crawford about the Freedom To Marry registry, we immediately thought it was perfect.  Both of us think it’s important to show support to this campaign.  Sometimes we can’t even believe same-sex marriage is still an issue in this country.  We just hope that the registry will help in any sort of way – spreading awareness and hopefully raising a little money for Freedom To Marry to keep doing what they are doing.”
