One of the pleasures I have as an officiant, is that I perform many mixed cultural/ ethnic ceremonies. At one time that would have meant a Catholic marrying a Protestant. Today, Canada’s diverse population brings together the world.
The wedding at Stathmere was a typical example of what has become the norm. He is of Chinese heritage and she the white English girl. The grooms side were dressed in Chinese finery while her side in the usual Western dress. As with this couple, I find that many choose to have a neutral ceremony that underscores the love for each other – rather than incorporating any culturally significant or symbolic rituals.
And it works. No one can argue against celebrating the love shared by the couple. It makes for a fun reception afterwards. You can see in the photo below, they are all in a celebratory mood after the ceremony.
